Strengthen Our Future with a Bequest

Sometimes the best way to support an organization you care about is through a bequest. The suggested language to use in your will to make a bequest to Household Goods Recycling of Massachusetts is as follows:

"I give (___ dollars / ___ percent or all of the rest and residue of my estate, real, personal or mixed, wherever situated) to the Household Goods Recycling of Massachusetts, Inc., a Massachusetts 501(c)(3) charitable organization, to support the general purposes of the organization."

Gifts of Retirement Plan Assets

Naming HGRM as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or other qualified retirement plan account can be a particularly easy and advantageous way to leave a legacy to HGRM.

Retirement plan assets can be heavily taxed when left to your heirs (except for your spouse). By naming HGRM as the beneficiary of the remainder of your retirement plan after the death of you or your spouse, 100 percent of the plan’s balance would be available for HGRM’s use, since the distribution would avoid both income and estate taxes.

To make this gift, you can simply notify your plan’s administrator of your wish to change the beneficiary. A "change of beneficiary" form will be required. Should you designate that your qualified retirement plan come directly to HGRM at your death, your spouse may need to sign a consent form, also provided by your plan’s administrator.

If your spouse and children are currently the beneficiaries of your retirement plan, you can continue to keep them as beneficiaries, and also include HGRM as the beneficiary of a portion of the plan. Upon your death, the plan administrator can "cash out" the Fellowship’s percentage of the account without affecting your family’s inheritance of the account, so that both HGRM and your heirs can benefit from your retirement savings.

Matching Gifts

Many local and national companies will match employee contributions to HGRM. Check with your company's Human Resources department to see whether your employer has a matching gifts program. The human resources department at most employers can provide you with matching gift forms.

Vehicle Donation

Please consider HGRM if you have a car or vehicle that you would like to donate. The value of the vehicle is tax deductible in a transaction that complies with current IRS guidelines. The donation will be the wholesale value of the car, not the retail value. If you have a vehicle that you would like to donate to HGRM or would like more info, please contact Sharon at 978-635-1710 x7 or via email - sharon@hgrm.org
